Think Outside the Inbox – B2B Marketing Automation Guide – Review

June 14, 2010

Adam Blitzer over at Pardot in Atlanta was kind enough to send me a copy of his new book ‘Think Outside the Inbox’(TOTI) co-authored with fellow Pardot co-founder David Cummings.  Well done for finding the time to produce this while simultaneously running ‘the fastest growing tech company in Atlanta guys.

It’s an enjoyable read and at 155 pages it makes its key points succinctly and without repetition. Marketing Automation is still not widely understood or practiced by B2B Marketers. Given the considerable ‘moving parts’ that a successful marketing automation implementation needs to address this book is very helpful in setting out foundations on which any successful investment must be built.

I recommend this book for anyone contemplating an investment in their Marketing capabilities or looking to build a case for Marketing Automation anytime soon. This can be a quick weekend read to get up to speed on the key issues. For me the most valuable parts of the book are the Chapters on Lead Scoring/Profiling (4) and Lead Nurturing (5) though there are plenty of other tip/ideas in other chapters.

There will probably be a few more books on the subject of marketing automation written but this is a good start.  This is a book to be read before implementing marketing automation. Perhaps a 2nd book…how to get the most from a marketing automation platform will be the next to be released.

Book can be purchase here on Amazon http://amzn.to/d7oUR5
